Reading paedophile David Morgan jailed for raping young boy

A paedophile pensioner who plied a young boy with heroin and booze before raping him has finally been jailed.

David Morgan would lure the troubled teen to his car and would supply him with drugs before having ‘his way’ with him, Reading Crown Court heard.

The 80 year old, of Redlands Road in Reading, pleaded guilty to raping and sexually assaulting an 18-year-old man in 1997.

He was sentenced to 13 and a half years  at Reading Crown Court on Tuesday, May 2.

The court heard how the elderly man, who was 54 at the time of the incident, had plied his victim with alcohol and drugs at a bail hostel in Reading where he was staying at time having been released from prison for similar crimes of sexual assault.

The boy was offered heroin and then the defendant ‘would have his way with him’. The ‘unwanted sexual activities’ would occur in Morgan’s home address and vehicle.

There were also indecent photographs taken of the teen which were found by police along with pictures of other young boys – some who were identified and others who were not.

In December 2018, the teen, now an adult, reported the incidents to the police and Morgan was interviewed in the following July when he answered, ‘No comment’.

A victim impact statement heard that the then teen said the incidents have impacted his friendships going through his life and he now suffers from anxiety and depression.

While in custody, Morgan has become ill and his most recent hospital visit was in January.

Sentencing, Judge Kirsty Real addressed Morgan, who appeared via video link.

The judge said: “Your victim was addicted to drugs and alcohol and he would go out in you car and take drugs from you.

“He states he suffers from anxiety and depression and this matter still affects him to this day.

“These are known as historic offences. You have an extensive history of sexual offences against boys. You’re now 80 with no offences in the intervening period.”

She handed him a main sentence for 13 years and six months of which he will serve two thirds of for the rape count.

He also received a concurrent sentence of 11 years and nine months and a further concurrent sentence of 27 months for the other counts of sexual assault.
