Heaton paedophile who groomed, abused and tried to rape boy jailed
A paedophile who groomed, abused and tried to rape a boy has been jailed.
Scott Kirkup left the young lad suffering nightmares and flashbacks after subjecting him to sex attacks which stole his innocence. The pervert even made the youngster view indecent images of children which he had downloaded from the internet.
The 34-year-old was locked up for two years and nine months last year for making and distributing indecent images and he has now been jailed for eight years for offences against the boy, including attempted rape.
As he was sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court, the victim told of the devastating impact the offending had on him. He said: “I’m paranoid when out and worried about being followed.
“I have nightmares and I shout and scream and sometimes wake up. I have flashbacks of bad things happening.
“I’m much more emotional and have angry outbursts and panic attacks. I can’t be alone with another man and can’t have physical contact with another man.
“If I hear his name mentioned everything comes flooding back and I freeze. I feel my innocence has been stolen and I’m not the boy I was before he abused me. I’m a different person now, for the worse.”
Kirkup, of no fixed address but formerly of Heaton, Newcastle, pleaded guilty to attempted rape, causing a child to engage in sexual activity, two counts of sexual assault and causing a child to watch a sexual act.
He was jailed for eight years, with an extended licence period of a further four years.
He was also told he must sign the sex offenders register for life, was made subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and was also given a restraining order.
