Man raped woman in the woods – then attacked brave dog walker who intervened

A man raped a woman in the woods before then assaulting a brave dog walker who intervened and tried to help.

A court heard how Kami Gaston, 20, of Lumn Road, Hyde, had gone for a walk through the woods with a woman in Hattersley in May 2021 before then raping her.

Another woman, who was out walking her dog, heard the victim shouting for help.

She went over to the pair before Gaston then assaulted her, knocking her to the floor and snatching her mobile phone out of her hands whilst threatening her.

He threw her phone into the bushes and ran away from the scene, taking the victim with him.

Following a report made to police, an investigation was launched and he was subsequently arrested and charged for these offences.

Gaston has now been sentenced to 13 years in prison plus an eight-year extended licence period after being found guilty of one count of rape and a section 47 assault.
