Isle of Wight paedophile JAILED after undercover police sting

An Isle of Wight paedophile has been jailed after sending sexual messages to what he thought was a 13-year-old girl, who was actually an undercover police officer.

Michael Shuttleworth, of Oak Vale, Ryde, attended the Isle of Wight Crown Court for sentencing on Thursday, June 22.

The 29-year-old had previously pleaded guilty to attempting to cause/incite a child to engage in sexual activity between June 10 and July 27, 2020.

He also admitted attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and two counts of making indecent images of a child on May 21, 2020

Tim Devlin, prosecuting, said Shuttleworth believed he was speaking to a 13-year-old girl but was instead communicating with an undercover officer on messaging apps Kik and Snapchat.

Mr Devlin told the court how conversations switched from Shuttleworth wanting to cuddle the child to him sending photos of his penis and inviting her to masturbate and have intercourse with him.

Police traced the communications and searched Shuttleworth’s address, discovering he had made two Category A and three Category B indecent images of children on his Samsung mobile.

Shuttleworth’s pre-sentence report found him to be medium risk and suggested he is ‘likely’ sexually attracted to children, despite him claiming he is not and receives no sexual gratification.

Mr Justice Saini jailed Shuttleworth for four years
