Paedophile gets six year sentence for vile abuse of young girl over four year period

A paedophile has been jailed for six and a half years, after being found guilty of a number of offences.

David Howie abused a young girl, carrying out both physical assaults on her, as well as inciting her to engage in sexual activity online. The 52-year-old was handed the six year sentence today (Monday 6 February).

The abuse took place in the Blackburn and Scarborough areas, over the period of 2016 to 2020. During this time, the young victim was between the ages of nine and 12.

Howie was convicted in October last year at Preston Crown Court on twelve counts of sexual assault on a child under 13, contrary to section seven of the Sexual Offences Act 2003.

He was also convicted of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity contrary to section eight of the Sexual Offences Act 2003.

Howie, of Bridlington, Humberside, was found not guilty of a further two offences. Now, he has been jailed for six and a half years and must sign the sex offenders’ register for life.
