Vile Somerset rapist jailed for violent attack on 14-year-old girl
A Frome man has been jailed for the violent rape of a 14-year-old girl.
Scott Wort, 49, forced the teenager onto a bed and then used threats to make sure she did not tell anyone what had happened.
The offence, which dates back 20 years, came to light when the victim plucked up the courage to reveal what had happened. Wort denied the allegation but was convicted by a jury at Taunton Crown Court.
The judge said his lies and denials had been ‘far fetched’ and totally rejected by the jury after they heard the evidence. Wort, from near Frome, was jailed for 12 years.
The victim said in a statement that it had taken her years to reveal the truth about what happened. She suffered flashbacks to the sickening incident. She had grown up feeling lonely, isolated and depressed because of what Wort did to her.
Her attacker said nobody would believe her if she told anyone and she lived with the secret for many years, developing PTSD, panic attacks and even self-harming.
Recorder Suzanne Chalmers said: “The course of her life was irrevocably altered as a result of what you did. You deprived her of the opportunity to live a normal teenage life.”
Wort, who has no previous convictions for similar offences, has shown no remorse for his actions but some self-pity for his own situation, the court was told. He still denies having any sexual contact with her.
The defendant must serve two thirds of his sentence in prison before release.
