Child rapist who lured little girl into home with sweets and money jailed
A child rapist who lured a little girl into a home with sweets and money has been jailed for 24 years.
Peter Tranter of Biddulph abused his young victim for around two years.
Tranter, aged 67, has been jailed for repeatedly abusing a young girl.
He raped his victim on at least 10 occasions as well as sexually assaulting her.
He would groom the child by giving her cash to buy sweets before luring her into the flat with the offer of more money, a court was told.
Prosecutor Anthony Longworth said: “The defendant would pass the time by being out in the street and watching the world go by.
He noticed her passing and began to give her money for sweets.
She didn’t realise he was grooming her so he could sexually assault her.
He gave her a couple of pounds at a time, which to a child of her age at that time was a lot of money for which she could buy a lot of sweets.
He was arrested in 2019 after the brave victim shared details with police.
He denied the allegations and the case went to trial, where he pleaded guilty on the fourth day to two counts of raping a child under the age of 13, two counts of assaulting a child under the age of 13 by penetration and two counts of sexually assaulting a child under 13.
In a victim impact statement, his victim said: “I’ve self harmed to feel like I was in control of at least one thing in my life.
“After I finally opened up and spoke, it didn’t get any easier, it got so much harder. I lost any control I’d previously had, my self harming got worse. I cut deeply into my arms as it was the only time I had control over my own pain.”
Judge Sally Hancox told him: “Your offending has been an appalling example of predatory and abusive behaviour towards a little girl who at the time was powerless to fight back against you.”
