Woman speaks of shock as perverted Lanarkshire pensioner exposes himself through window

A woman has described her shock after a pervy pensioner stood at his living room window and exposed himself to her and another female.

David Cairns shocked the women by placing his penis between the slats of the blinds.

Cairns, of Kilfinan Road, Shotts, was put on the sex offenders’ register for a year at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.

The 75-year-old was convicted of exposing himself at his home on an occasion in September 2019.

Sheriff Scott Pattison also found Cairns guilty of engaging in a 16-month course of conduct that caused the women fear or alarm.

The charge stated that he repeatedly watched and stared at the women from his window between September 2019 and January 2021.

An allegation that he repeatedly turned up at one woman’s workplace was deleted from the charge.

Cairns had denied both charges.

The woman said: “One moment I was taking my son out in the car and then I saw what he was doing. I couldn’t believe what I had seen, it was disgusting.

“I wish I had spoke to someone about it earlier than I did. I told my neighbour who said that he had been in my garden while I was on holiday.

“It was very concerning, but I’m glad he has been found guilty and we can try and move on.”

After studying background reports, the Sheriff imposed a community payback order, warning it was a direct alternative to a prison sentence.

Cairns will be under the supervision of social workers for a year and must stay away from the two women during that time.

In addition, he must pay each £450 compensation.

The woman added: “The court experience was horrendous, I had to go as a witness and it was very traumatic.

“I didn’t even want to go for the verdict. I had never been to court before and I don’t ever want to go back.”
