Blackburn paedophile avoids jail after being snared by undercover police officer
A paedophile who was snared by an undercover police officer posing as a child has narrowly avoided jail.
On March 11, 2021, Bashir Ahmed Jogee attempted to engage in online sexual communications with a girl whom he believed was 13-years-old, asking her if she “liked his penis”.
Preston Crown Court heard that on the same date, the 57-year-old, of Lincoln Road, Blackburn, also attempted to cause the girl to look at an image of a person engaging in a sexual activity.
Wheelchair-bound Jogee, who appeared in court supported by two members of his family, pleaded guilty to the offences in May after police, who were posing online as the 13-year-old girl, swooped on his address and arrested him last year.
He admitted attempting to engage in sexual communications with a child and attempting to cause a child aged 13 to 15 to watch/look at an image of sexual activity.
Sentencing Jogee to 16 months in prison, suspended for two years, Judge Darren Preston said: “Make sure you don’t ever appear before this court again.”
Jogee was also ordered to carry out 40 days work with probation, handed 30 rehabilitation activity days and was placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years
