Attacker jailed for four years
A sex attacker who tried to rape a schoolgirl has been jailed for four years.
Mark Nicklin had already kissed and groped the 11-year-old during earlier assaults
He told her what he was doing had to be kept secret, Newcastle Crown Court heard.
And he finally tried to rape her as she struggled to push him away.
Nicklin, 33, of Staneway, Leam Lane, Gateshead, and with two children of his own, was arrested after the youngster broke her silence.
He initially denied doing anything wrong.
But went on to admit attempted rape and three charges of sexually touching a child.
Passing sentence, Judge David Hodson told him: “Clearly this girl’s life has been turned upside down.”
He also ordered Nicklin to register as a sex offender for life
