Man left dog to die alone

A man that left a dog to die alone in a property without food and water has been handed a community order

Joshua Exall (25) formerly of Peterborough but now of Knockhall Road, Greenhithe appeared at court where he pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to a female Staffordshire Bull type dog named Shadow

The guilty plea refers to failing to take steps to ensure the needs of an animal were met

The court was told that Exall had left Shadow with no water or food and locked up in an empty property in Peterborough for at least two weeks after he moved to Kent.

It is understood that he told friends that he had arranged for someone to visit Shadow to feed and exercise her, but this was found to of been a lie.

Shadow was eventually rescued by police and RSPCA after they were alerted to her suffering by concerned neighbours who could hear barks and whining.

Shadow was said to be “skin and bone” and suffering severe fur loss and malnutrition

Shadow survived and is in the care of the RSPCA. Shadow will be rehomed once a full recovery is made

Exall was handed a Community order – unpaid work of 180 hours. Victim surcharge £95, costs £400. Disqualified from keeping animals for 10 years
