Man found with 600 images of bestiality blamed others for downloading them
A man was found with more than 600 extreme pornographic images depicting bestiality – and then tried to blame it on someone else.
Mark Price, 59, of Cardiff, was arrested on December 12, 2020, for an unrelated matter which led to police carrying out a search of his home.
A laptop and a hard drive were seized and examination of the devices revealed 639 images of bestiality had been downloaded, a sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court heard on Monday.
Further examination the devices revealed the images had been accessed between April and December 2020 and internet searches were also discovered.
When police interviewed Price, he denied downloading the offending material and claimed other members of his household were responsible.
The defendant, of Pant Glas, Pentwyn, later pleaded guilty to possessing extreme pornographic images.
The court heard he was previously convicted for indecent assault in 2011 and was sentenced to two years imprisonment and placed on the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.
Solicitor-Advocate Derrick Gooden said his client now accepted he was responsible for downloading the images, but said none of the images involved children. He also said the defendant would not be eligible to be required to sign the sex offenders’ register.
Sentencing, Judge Jeremy Jenkins said: “You denied downloading them and sought to blame others, including members of your own household.
You have since accepted full responsibility for downloading them and have feelings of shame and guilt due to offences, which is common for sexual offenders.”
Price was sentenced to an 18-month community order. He was also ordered to carry out 180 hours of unpaid work, a 30 day rehabilitation activity requirement, and ordered to pay £500 in court costs
