Paedophile was attacked in Canada prison by inmate who discovered sick crimes

A cowardly paedophile who fled the country after his arrest was attacked in prison when a fellow inmate discovered his sick crimes.

Mohammed Schwitters was arrested in July 2017 after his victim reported to police he had sexually abused her over a seven-year period.

The now 55-year-old was released under investigation but within days skipped the country to Canada.

West Midlands Police spent three years hunting him down and were able to trace his mobile number and bank account after he used them in a mechanic’s workshop in Toronto.

Schwitters, previously from Small Heath, spent more than 300 days in custody in Canada before he was extradited in August 2021.

He went on to plead guilty to 10 offences including multiple charges of child sexual assault, attempted rape and assault by penetration.

He was jailed for 18 years at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday, March 4.

In mitigation Graeme Logan, defending, confirmed he had been attacked whilst in custody in Canada.
