British paedophile, 46, who fled the UK to avoid sentencing for child sexual abuse images is arrested in Thai ‘sex capital’ after eight years on the run
A British man who fled the country after being found guilty of possessing child sexual abuse images has been caught living in Thailand.
William Dempster, 46, from Lanarkshire in Scotland, was convicted in May 2014 but posted bail and disappeared before he could be sentenced.
But he has since been tracked to Thailand’s notorious ‘Sin City’ of Pattaya where he was found living on May 30 and re-arrested.
An arrest video showed a sweating and visibly-nervous Dempster being interrogated by Thai officers outside his house in the city’s Bang Lamung district
Dempster was found to be overstaying his Thai visa as well as absconding on a warrant, police said.
He will now be deported from Thailand back to Scotland where he faces jail.
Convicted Lanarkshire paedophile who fled to Thailand arrested on international warrant after eight-year hunt
A Lanarkshire paedophile who was convicted of possession of indecent images of children eight years ago has been arrested in Thailand on an international warrant.
William Dempster, 46, is set to be extradited back to Scotland after being taken into police custody yesterday following an operation involving officers across the globe.
Following extensive enquiries by Police Scotland, the National Crime Agency and the Royal Thai Police, Dempster was arrested in Pattaya.
Dempster was convicted of having indecent pictures of children in his possession in May 2014.
But following his conviction, he fled the UK before he could be sentenced, sparking a hunt to track him down.
In a statement, Police Scotland said: “Earlier today [May 30], following extensive enquiries by our officers and our colleagues at the National Crime Agency and the Royal Thai Police, Dempster was arrested on an international warrant in Pattaya and will now face extradition proceedings.”
