Paedophile convicted in his abscence

A smirking pervert who was found guilty of eight sexual offences against young children has been handed a long prison sentence. However, he did a runner before he could be incarcerated

The trial against child rapist Norbert Konga, 46, went ahead in his absence at Teesside Crown Court as he has since fled to the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Konga, formerly of Stockton, was found guilty of eight counts of rape and sexual activity with a child under 13.

The crimes took place between 2012 and 2019 and he was found guilty of two charges of rape, two of attempted rape and four of assault.

Specialist child protection detectives are now reminding victims of sexual or physical abuse – whether recent or non-recent – that police will do all they can to deal with perpetrators – even if they do all they can to evade justice.

Investigations began in 2019 after two girls under 13 made allegations against him. In August last year Konga, who had moved to London and denied the charges, was bailed to appear before the court this month for his trial, but then fled the country.
