Vile thug tortured woman and repeatedly held three-month-old baby underwater
A brutal thug who raped and abused a woman also sickeningly shoved a baby underwater during a terrifying attack, a court has heard.
Christopher Evans, from Huddersfield, mentally tortured his victim and sexually abused her in a campaign of terror which left her scalp extremely sore after he forcefully pulled her around by her hair.
His victim was left in so much pain that she was unable to brush her locks and her personality had become “withdrawn” after the horrifying rape.
Her family said she was “outgoing and lovely” before the attack but they have since described her as “subdued” in the aftermath of the assault.
Judge Robin Mairs turned to the 30-year-old at Leeds Crown Court and said: The judge told Evans: “You called her a ‘stupid s***’ and ‘pathetic’. At times she felt you were capable of killing her.”
In a victim impact statement, the woman told how “even affection and physical contact from her family can make her flinch.”
A separate incident saw Evans hold the head of a three-month-old child underwater several times.
The attack was so bad, that a finger was used to get the water out from the tot’s throat
Evans was found guilty of two counts of rape; two counts of actual bodily harm; one of cruelty to a child; and controlling behaviour.
The trial heard Evans held previous convictions from 2013 for battery, common assault, criminal damage and the use of an imitation firearm.
After being released in 2014, he then committed further offences of battery and criminal damage and was handed a suspended sentence.
Evans was handed an extended jail sentence of 20 years – made up of 16 years imprisonment and an extended licence period of four years.
The judge concluded that Evans is a “dangerous” offender and told him he must serve up to two-thirds of his sentence in prison before going before the Parole Board who will determine when he is safe to release.
He has also been ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register indefinitely.
