‘You are a compulsive paedophile’ – sex offender jailed for five years

A paedo who exposed himself to a little girl while on a milk float and sexually assaulted another child has been branded a “compulsive paedophile” by a judge.

Convicted sex offender Edward Walton, 55, was also told he “posed a serious risk to children”.

Walton had been found guilty on April 8 of six charges following a trial at Hove Crown Court.

The first charge related to an incident between 2004 and 2006 when he exposed himself while on a milk float. He was found not guilty on a separate count of causing the child, aged about 11, to watch pornography.

He was convicted of three counts of sexual assault and two counts of causing a second girl to watch pornography when she was aged “nine or ten”.

Walton is currently serving a 29-year prison sentence at HM Littlehey, Cambridgeshire, after being convicted of serious sexual offences at Chichester Crown Court in 2016.

The court was told he was “comfortable” in Littlehey and was known for being “courteous” to prison staff.

The Recorder, Mr Anthony Hawks, told Walton, who appeared in court via video link for sentencing on June 10 on the latest charges, that he was imposing the lengthy custodial sentence for the latest offences as he posed a “serious risk to children”.

“You are a compulsive paedophile,” Recorder Hawks told the defendant.

He added that Walton had claimed at trial there was a “conspiracy” against him and had “fabricated” evidence and by his not guilty pleas had caused his victims to undergo the ordeal of a trial.

The judge praised one of Walton’s victims, who attended court on June 10 to read a prepared victim impact statement.

In an emotional moment, the victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said their “anxiety had gone through the roof” since the start of the trial.

“I have felt destroyed,” said the victim, who added she had suffered from depression and had taken anti-depressants and sleeping pills. “I have self-harmed.”

At trial, Walton appeared in the dock and had shown no emotion as the jury foreman read out the guilty verdicts, all of which were unanimous decisions.

The offences took place between 2004 and 2015 at addresses where he was living in Littlehampton and Barnham respectively, police said after the trial.

At sentencing, he told Walton he would be placed on the sex offenders’ register for life and also imposed a five-year sexual harm order.
