Five years for pervert

A BARRY paedophile who simulated sex with a six-year-old girl has been branded ‘sick’ by the judge who jailed him for five years.

Pervert Ronald Shier of Greenwood Street admitted the offence on the child he was babysitting at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday September 10.

The court also heard how the 57-year-old admitted a string of sex attacks against another schoolgirl in the early 1980s.

Prosecutor Richard Ace said the offence against the six-year-old happened in July this year while her mother was away.

He said: “When she returned she spoke to her daughter who said Shier had sexually assaulted her. The police were contacted the following day and the girl was interviewed.

“The girl told police Shier led her upstairs and told her to take her pyjamas off then lay on top of her and went ‘up and down’.” Cardiff Crown Court heard he carried out similar offences against another girl in the 1980s.

Jobless Shier admitted three counts of indecent assault against the first girl and sexual assault by touching against the six-year-old.

Judge Stephen Hopkins QC said the public “needed protection” from Shier and jailed him for five years.

He said: “You assess yourself as being a sick man. With that I entirely agree.”

Robert Hawkins, defending, said Shier was full of remorse and was sorry for what he had done.

He said: “He accepts that he has got a problem – it has preyed on his mind and he is sorry about it.

“Shier said he has lost everything, he has lost his self-respect and the respect of other people. He acknowledges that yes, he is sick.”

Grandfather Shier was ordered to register as a sex offender for life and banned from working with children.
