Girls of 13 and 14 groomed for sex by pervert Handley

A PREDATOR has been jailed for grooming two teenage girls, sending them “extremely explicit” messages and going on to have sex with one of them.

Colsterdale Handley, 31, asked the girls to send him indecent images of themselves and arranged to meet one of them, starting “some form of relationship”.

Handley, of Amber Street, Allenton, started sending the girls “innocuous” text messages after becoming acquainted with them.

But Derby Crown Court was told these messages became gradually “more sexualised” and, as he gained their confidence, he asked for photographs of them.

Contact with the first girl, who was 13, was stopped after her mother found the messages and called the police.

It was after he was arrested and bailed in 2009 that he struck up contact with the second girl, who was 14.

He was arrested a second time, earlier this year, after someone found out about their relationship and reported it to the police.

Jailing Handley for four years and six months, Judge John Gosling said: “Your case is very, very worrying.

“The text messages were disgusting and very graphic. Your behaviour has all the hallmarks of careful, predatory grooming.”

He said Handley never touched the first girl but was undeterred by being arrested and went on to groom and seduce the second girl.

Judge Gosling added: “You flattered her when you got what you wanted and sulked when you didn’t.”

The court heard that Handley had sent the second girl “a disgusting video” of himself and had eventually got her into his bedroom, which he “carefully orchestrated”.

Handley admitted meeting a child following sexual grooming, causing a child to watch a sexual act, two counts of sexual activity with a child and two offences of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

Clive Stockwell, in mitigation, said: “He fully grasps his wrongdoing.” Mr Stockwell said things had begun to go wrong for Handley in 2005, when his father died.

He said: “This was compounded in 2008 when he separated from the mother of his children.”

The court heard Handley was of previous good character. He was banned from working with children and must sign the sex offenders register for life.

When he is released from jail, he must abide by a sexual offences prevention order, which prevents him from having unsupervised contact with anyone under 16.
