A paedophile who raped a young schoolgirl while she was bound and gagged with tape has been jailed for nine years.
Brian Dick, 41, who kept a list of his “conquests” of youngsters, was branded a “sexual predator” by the judge.
A jury found the lorry driver guilty of assaulting and raping the 10-year-old girl between March 2008 and August 2009 at his home in Maddiston, Falkirk.
QC Ian Duguid told the High Court in Edinburgh his client rejected the information in background reports because he claimed social workers were biased against him.
During Dick’s trial, the girl, whose evidence was shown to jurors on screens, told how she was still at primary school when she was first molested by Dick.
She said she was tied up with duct tape, and that the sex had occurred more than once.
The girl said she later confided in her grandmother, saying: “I just told her he was being weird.”
An investigation began and when police raided Dick’s home they found a “conquest list” naming a string of girls and young women – some with numbers after their names indicating they were only 14 or 15.
The inquiry also brought other offences to light and Dick, from Carronshore, Falkirk, was found guilty of indecency offences against a further three under-age girls, going back to 1991.
He was also convicted of possessing images of child sex abuse at his home in August 2009.
The rape victim, whose evidence was shown to jurors on screens, told the court the first time he sexually assaulted her she was in primary five or six.
She said she was tied up with duct tape and added: “The second time my feet never got done. It was just my hands and my mouth.” She said the assaults had occurred more than once.
The youngster was interviewed by police but wrote down many of the details. She said: “It was embarrassing telling them what he was doing to me.”
The girl, now 13, wrote: “Brian has been having sex with me.”
She said another man had sex with her and was told that if she tried to scream she was going to be killed “or something like that”.
Advocate depute Tim Niven-Smith pointed out to the jury that the “hit list” found at Dick’s home had featured the names of other girls who had appeared on charges in the case.
He said: “You can legitimately infer it is a conquest list. Unpleasant as that may be it seems he keeps a list of people he has had sex with.”
Jailing him, judge John Morris QC told Dick: “The jury convicted you of an appalling catalogue of offences.”
He added: “You are a sexual predator who regularly took advantage of young girls.”
He also made an order that Dick, whose name is now on the sex offenders register for life, should be kept under strict supervision after his release, by extending his licence conditions for three years.
